Dr. Madhav Manjrekar
Dr. Madhav Manjrekar, Senior Member of IEEE, is an Associate Professor at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte. He also serves as an Assistant Director of the Energy Production & Infrastructure Center (EPIC), a research center founded by industry champions such as Duke Energy, EPRI, and Westinghouse at the university. Dr. Madhav Manjrekar received his B.E. degree from Government College of Engineering, Pune, India, his M.Tech. from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India, M.S. from Montana State University, Bozeman, Montana, and Ph.D. from University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin, in 1993, 1995, 1997, and 1999 respectively. Besides his academic obligations, Dr. Manjrekar works as a Principal Member of a consulting and holding company Vaidyut LLC and serves as an Executive Director of a 501(c)(3) registered non-profit corporation called The Nacre Foundation. The Nacre Foundation is focused on development and dissemination of open source, interoperable, and secure power conversion and control platforms. Dr. Manjrekar holds 10 US and international patents, has published over 60 journal and conference papers and has received multiple IEEE prize paper awards. He has also served on various task forces, including High Mega-Watt Leadership Team of National Institute of Standards and Technology, the Smart Grid Task Force of North American Electric Reliability Corporation, IEEE Standard P2030, and on review panels for ARPA-E, US Department of Energy, and the National Science Foundation. Dr. Manjrekar’s advisees include more than 15 masters and doctoral degree recipients and candidates. His teaching repertoire consists of classes on Logic Systems, Electromagnetic Fields, Electric Machines, and Utility Applications of Power Electronics. Dr. Manjrekar’s research interests are in applications of power electronics in utility power systems and variable speed motor drives, interfaces for renewable power generation and energy storage, smart grids, and cyber vulnerability of electric infrastructure.
Prof. B. G Fernandes
Prof. B. G. Fernandes (Fellow, IEEE) received his B.Tech. degree from National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal in 1984, M.Tech. degree from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur in 1989, and a Ph.D. degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay in 1993, all in Electrical Engineering. Following his Ph.D., he joined the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering. In 1998, he moved to the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, where he is currently a Professor. From 2015 to 2020, he served as the Chairman of the Department. He is the Principal Investigator of the National Centre for Photovoltaic Research and Education and the National Centre of Excellence in Technology for Internal Security at IIT Bombay. His research interests include power electronic converters, electric vehicle drives, and power electronic interfaces for renewable and non-conventional energy systems.
Prof. Lalit Kumar Goel
Prof. Lalit K. Goel is a distinguished academic and professional in electrical engineering with a career spanning over 30 years in higher education and four years in the electrical power industry. He obtained his B. Tech Degree in electrical engineering from the Regional Engineering College, Warangal, India in 1983, and his MSc and PhD degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, in 1988 and 1991 respectively. He joined the School of EEE at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, in 1991 where he is presently a professor of power engineering. He served as the Head of the Division of Power Engineering from July 2005 to August 2008, Deputy Director of NTU's Protective Technology Research Center (PTRC) from May 1999 to April 2007, Dean of Admissions & Financial Aid from July 2008 to June 2012, Director Undergraduate Education (Projects) in the President's Office from Jan 2013 to Dec 2015, and Director of the Office of Global Education and Mobility from October 2014 until March 2018. Since April 2018, Dr Goel has been serving as the Director of the Renaissance Engineering Programe (REP), and since July 2020 he has concurrently been serving as the Director of India Connect NTU program. He received the 1997 & 2002 Teacher of the Year Awards for the School of EEE, “Best Teacher of Year 2” awards for 1999/2000, 2000/2001, 2001/2002, 2005/06 and 2009/2010, and the “Best Teacher of Year 3” awards for 2001/2002 and 2002/03. Dr Goel served as the Publications Chair of the 1995 IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Energy Management & Power Delivery (EMPD) conference, Organizing Chairman of the 1998 IEEE PES EMPD Conference, Vice-Chairman of the IEEE PES Winter Meeting 2000, Honorary Secretary of the International Power Engineering Conferences (IPEC) in 1997, 1999, 2001 & 2003, Chair of the IEEE PES Powercon2004, Chair of IPEC2005 & IPEC2007, Chair of Tencon2009, Chair of PMAPS2010, Co-Chair of ACEPT2016, 2017 and 2018, Honorary Chair of IEEE Tencon 2016, and Advisor of IEEE PES ISGT Asia 2018. Dr Goel received the IEEE PES Singapore Chapter Outstanding Engineer Award in 2000, and the IEEE PES Outstanding Power Engineering Educator Award in 2009. Dr Goel served as the Editor for the International Journal of Electric Power Systems Research (EPSR) from 2002 to 2019, and he is an editorial board member of the International Journal for Emerging Electric Power Systems. Dr Goel served as the IEEE Singapore Section Chair from January 2007 to December 2008, and as the Asia-Pacific Representative on the IEEE PES Governing Board from 2011 to 2016. Dr Goel is a Fellow of the IEEE. He has published more than 190 international journal and conference papers in the areas of power system reliability, cost/benefit assessment, power markets and renewables.
